Lebanon's Shiite fundamentalist group Hezbollah called on the Palestinians Wednesday to turn their stone-throwing uprising into an armed resistance by killing Israelis with suicide bombings, bullets and knives.

"You have to develop the Intifada into an armed resistance," Hezbollah secretary general Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah said in a late rally aired live across the Arab world via satellite from the group's al-Manar television station.

"You have to move from the stone-throwing Intifada to the phase of real Jihad (holy war) operations," the bearded sheikh told thousands at a Hezbollah "rally in solidarity with the Palestinian people" in Beirut's southern suburbs.

Nasrallah, offering the Palestinians "detailed proposals ... for a developed strategy," told them to "save the bullets you are firing into the air or at the walls ... save them for the chests of the Zionists, soldiers and settlers."

"Let a (Palestinian) reach a settler, let him stab him fiercely and let him die afterwards. They (Israelis) love worldly matters, we love martyrdom. Hit them in their weak points," he shouted as thousands chanted: "Allahu Akbar," or God is greatest.

Nasrallah said "the rule is: you kill and then you die. You will see that the results will be different."

The Shiite fundamentalist group spearheaded the guerrilla war in southern Lebanon until Israel ended its 22-year occupation of the region on May 24.

[Second Version of Dispatch - JI]

Lebanon's Shiite fundamentalist group Hezbollah called on the Palestinians Wednesday to turn their stone-throwing uprising into an armed resistance by killing Israelis with suicide bombings, bullets and knives.

"You have to develop the Intifada into an armed resistance," Hezbollah secretary general Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah said at a late rally aired live across the Arab world via satellite from the group's al-Manar television station.

"The rule is: you kill and then you die. You will see that the results will be different," he said in a fiery speech that immediately drew many live phone calls from Gaza and Jordan to express "gratitude" to Nasrallah's stand and vows to "follow his heroic path."

Nasrallah said the "weak point of the Zionist is (that he) is not willing to sacrifice himself. No Jew considers it worth dying for the land of Palestine."

"This is the equation that led to victory in Lebanon and the only one that protects Lebanon," said Nasrallah, whose group spearheaded a guerrilla war that led to Israel ending its 22-year occupation of south Lebanon in May.

"There are empty settlements (in northern Israel) because at the borders there is a yellow (Hezbollah) flag. There are no arms at the borders, just a yellow flag," he said.

Nasrallah said the armed resistance of the Palestinians will "stop the immigration (of Jews) to Israel and will start emigration."

"The Falasha Jew will say: I prefer hunger in Ethiopia to knives in Palestine, and the Russian Jew will say: I prefer to earn 50 dollars a month and then he will pack his belongings and leave."

Nasrallah renewed a call on "Islamic leaders to issue a loud Fatwa (religious decree) making the Jihad a duty of every Muslim, and you will see that Israel would not last for days after that."

He urged Arab and Islamic nations and leaders to provide "all kinds of assistance to the Palestinian people" because "Palestine and Jerusalem "are not a sole responsibility for the Palestinians ... but for all of us."

The sheikh called on Arab and Islamic countries that have relations with Israel "not only to freeze these ties, but to cut them."

"What happened in the last few days showed that the Palestinian people will not surrender and will not give up Jerusalem nor Palestine. We are also speaking about those living in (Israel) who proved they are not Arab Israelis, but Palestinian Arabs," he said.

Nasrallah accused US President Bill Clinton of "lying under oath" by refusing to admit that the Israeli army fire had killed a 12-year-old Palestinian boy during clashes in Gaza on Saturday.

"America is a partner in this aggression. We and you are getting killed with American weapons," he said.

A visit last Thursday by Israeli right-wing leader Ariel Sharon to east Jerusalem's mosque compound sparked a wave of violent clashes in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Arab towns inside Israel, that has left 69 dead, almost all of them Palestinians and including many children.

===============================================

Hezbollah chief Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah Wednesday encouraged Palestinians to have faith and fight Israeli occupying forces with suicide attacks and even knives.

"Palestine could be liberated by armed struggle, knives and suicide operations," Nasrallah said during a rally of thousands of Hezbollah followers in Beirut's southern suburbs.

He said liberating Palestine does not require "armies," reminding how Hezollah guerrillas fought Israeli forces in south Lebanon for years and forced their withdrawal from south Lebanon last May after 22 years of occupation.

"We did so (in Lebanon) and you can do the same," Nasrallah said as his followers shouted "Allah Akbar" (God is Great). He told the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to find Israel's "weak point," as Hezbollah did in south Lebanon.

"The priority in south Lebanon was not destroying a tank as Israelis can bring thousands of tanks,'' he said. "Their (Israelis) principal weak point is the Israeli human being who is not ready to make sacrifices and is not ready to die. We, in Lebanon and Palestine, adore martyrdom and we can defeat them (Israelis)."

Nasrallah said the Palestinians can move "from the Intifada of stone-throwing to suicide operations."

"The formula should not remain that they kill our children but should be to kill their soldiers and settlers," he said. "If you don't have bullets, everyone of you has knives and can use them to kill Israeli soldiers and settlers."

He said if attacks were successful, no Jewish immigrant would stay in Israel and would surely prefer to go back to the country he came from, whether Ethiopia or Russia.

Nasrallah promised the "great and struggling" Palestinian people assistance from Hezbollah, refusing to disclose how. "We will be with you and we will not abandon you. We will at your side and you can bet on this and that is enough," he said. "We should have big faith and trust in God."

 Footnotes and Further Reading

=======================================

For the past hundred years, the so-called "Protocols of Zion" has been one of the main texts used to indoctrinate people with antisemitic ideas. It was exposed as a hoax in a series of articles by Philip Graves in the London Times in 1921.  We have scanned the original Times articles and transcribed them for easy reading.  For links to these documents, please go to
